GROWING MARKET

NEW ZEALAND PRODUCTS.

FAVOURABLE REPORTS.

A tribute to the efforts of the High Commissioner and his executive in London in bringing the excellence of New Zealand primary products before the eyes of the British public was paid by Mr. F. W. Mothes, formerly of Wellington, and now London director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Ltd., who arrived at Wellington on Tuesday from England, via Sydney. • New Zealand goods, particularly butter, cheese and Canterbury lamb are well and favourably known in most parts of the United Kingdom, said Mr. Mothes to a Dominion reporter. Canterbury was becoming a household word for high-quality lamb, ho continued. In some cases he believes that the housewife thinks it is grown at Canterbury in England. The New Zealand Dairy and Meat Control Boards, with the limited means at their disposal, were making splendid efforts to increase the prestige of New Zealand goods, and furthermore to arrange for the distribution of our products in every worth-while centre. There were still a few populous districts which remained to be worked, 'bMt they would he penetrated very soon, and eventually New Zealand commodities would be known in every village and hamlet in the British Isles. “I have never yet heard a complaint in any quarter in regard to the goods which are sent from this country,” he said. Mr. Mothes mentioned the changes that had taken place in the presentation of cheese for consumption. While a few of the older-established English brands still remained, such as Stilton and Cheddar, in recent years the tendency had been to make up cheese for sale packeted in cartons. There was a new development of luncheon cheese, which was flavoured in a special manner. For putting up this cheese in packet form a considerable portion of New Zealand cheese was used, and although it actually lost its identity, nevertheless it was required in increasing quantities as a base from which the new product was made.
