FACTORY MANAGERS MEET

HIGH OVER-RUNS IN TARANAKI.

GRADING COMPETITIONS RESULTS

The annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Mnagers’ Association yesterday in New Plymouth was attended by twenty. Mr. G. Thorburn presided. The annual report stated' that the new constitution and rules had been adopted at the annual general meeting of the association in Palmerston North in June, 1930, and finally accepted for registration under the Incorporated Societies Act in December. Copies of the rules and constitution had been sent out to all members of the old association and it was necessary that members should make formal application for membership of the new body before June 12. Financial members of the old association automatically become ordinary members of the new association by applying to the Dominion secretary. Two successful conferences had been held, one at Moturoa, the other at Patea. Mr. W. M. Singlotoil, Director of the Dairy Division, and his officers gave instruction and addresses at the conferences. The year had been exceptional in the changes lately made by many factories from the manufacture of cheese to butter owing to better prices. The balance-sheet showed the income of £69 Bs. Gd. had been £2 19s. jd. in excess of expenditure. The credit balance of the branch was now £34 12s. 4d. . In supplementing the annual report, the chairman stated that during the year successful meetings had been held at Stratford, New Plymouth and Hawera. The meeting at Stratford had proved the most beneficial to members, and valuable information had been gained from the address given by Mr. Ross on general conditions in Britain. The balance-sheet compared favourably with those of other branches. The following were elected to the provincial committee: Messrs. T. Renton, A. Drake, W. Young, A. Illingworth, F. Feddersen, H. Dimmer and J. Thompson. The action of the provincial committee in nominating Messrg. G. Thorburn and J. L. Taylor for the Dominion executive was confirmed. Considerable discussion ensued regarding abnormal over-run secured at two factories, and the following motion was carried unanimously: “That the figures in connection with high over-run in Taranaki be procured and, if they are substantially higher than the average it be a recommendation to the annual meeting of managers to take the necessary steps to investigate.” The Dominion secretary showed a model butter box to be used at all shows. It was generally considered the box was t-he best proposal yet received, and the meeting recommended that the type of box be made, the standard for show exhibits. At a. subsequent meeting -of the executive Mr. J. Renton was appointed chairman and Mr. W. Young re-elected secretary.
