CENTRAL SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Central School Committee was neld on Tuesday evening. There were present: Messrs. F. A. Coleman (chairman), J. O. Turner, F Nicholson, E. Hodder, H. Broad, F. Petter, A, Feakins (hon. secretary), and D. P. Evans (headmaster). The headmaster reported as follows: “'Number on roll at end of last terra (December 19, 1930), boys 447, girls 445, total 892; number' left, not having attended this term, 48, 47, 95; number admitted during term, 68, 91,. 159; num-' bei’ withdrawn during term, 38, 55, 93; number on roll at end of term, 429, 434, 863; average weekly roll, 426.5, 433.2, 859.8; average attendance, 407.8, 405.9, 813.7; percentage of attendances for term, 94.6. ' Roll numbers, etc., for two weeks ending June 5, 1931: Number [ admitted, boys 7, girls 18, total 25; number withdrawn, 4,5, 9; present roll number, 432, 447, 879; roll number at corresponding period in 1930, 428, 437, 865. “From the above figures it will be seen that the attendance has been quite satisfactory. To maintain our present sub-grade an average of 800 is required. This will be achieved provided we have no setbacks through epidemics of sickness. In few cases do we find pupils absent without reasonable excuses. “Miss Davies, English . exchange teacher, and Mr. Short, grade 11. assistant, have taken up the positions vacated by Miss Douglas, Canadian exchange teacher, and Mr. Thomas. Mrs. Firth has returned to duty after two weeks’ leave of absence owing to illness. “Owing to re-building operations we are carrying on our work under anything but congenial conditions. Nevertheless, our difficulties are ameliorated by the considerateness shown us by the foreman of works and his staff.” The secretary was requested to send a .letter of thanks to Mr. Moyes for granting the use of the High School football playing grounds to the Central School for matches and practice. .
