GUERIN APPEAL SUCCEEDS
A yr-" ER REVEALED AS FORGER. By T«!«r*ph— Pr*»» Assn. —Copyright. London, June 9. Eddie Guerin successfully appealed against his conviction for uttering forged cheques. An expert asserted that Guerin signed the cheques. The appeal partly turned on an anonymous letter written while Guerin was in custody revealing another person as the forger. A message of April 23 said Guerin, famous in 1905 for escaping from Devil’s Island, was sentenced to three years’ penal servitude in London for receiving a book of travellers’ cheques and uttering two. Guerin, who is now 70 years’ old, seemed stunned at the sentence, protesting his innocence.
