CITY DRAW WITH OHANGAI

GOOD GAME PLAYED IN THE RAIN. EXCITING IN LATER STAGES. Ohangai yeste.rday maintained their one-point lead in the South Taranaki Wednesday Rugby competition 'by drawing with City, nine all. Conditions were against good open football and play was confined almost entirely to kicking and loose rushes. The game was most exciting in the closing stages, when Ohangai kept City penned in their own territory and hammered at the line/ 'Die teams were:—

Ohangai.—Clarke; Radford, Lander, Hinga: J. O’Shea, P; O’Shea; J. Hinga; Church, Taylor, Cunningham, Mowbray, Guest, Simon, Findlay, Lee.

City.—E. Hart; Norris, Spedding, Murphy: Barlow, Whakarua; Kinsella; Eaves, Gray, Mcßeth, White, 0. Hart, Brown. M. Good, Cannon.

Ohangai kicked to the line and gained considerable ground, their forwards packing better than those of the City team. Ohangai were content to keep the ball at their feet, and this was most suited to the conditions. From a scrum on City’s line Church dived over, but missed the ball. The resulting scrum saw the same player dribble over and score, the kick being missed. Ohangai again carried iplay to City territory, the home team losing ground through trying to handle the wet ball. From a penalty well out on the touchline Clarke kicked' a magnificent goal. Whakarua was holding up the Ohangai attack by fielding cleanly in the face of forward rushes. Church and Mowbray led a slashing attack and Spedding booted over the dead-ball line. Good broke away and the City pack were behind him when Clarke took the ball from his feet and side-stepped through to save brilliantly. E. Hart was playing well and time and again extricated City from dangerous situations. 3|urphy shot down the sideline and ■ touched down, but had knocked, on as he gathered in the ball. Forward play in midfield concluded the spell.

Cannon came clear of a loose scrum and bore down the field with the ball at toe. Good carried on, but was just ■beaten in the dive. An Ohangai man was caught well offside and E. Hart kicked a good goal. Cannon burst away and was held up on the line. Offside play gave E. Hart another chance, and he- evened matters with a nice kick. City again attacked and offside play saw E. Hart land his third goal. Ohangai kicked through and chased it, bustling the City backs for Jim Hinga to score in the corner. Mowbray forced his way from a line-out and was almost over. With the scores again level play was, willing and exciting and Ohangai had City defending hard. Mr. W. Canning was the referee. SOUTH TARANAKI WINTER SHOW. CLOSING OF ENTRIES.
