AUTOMOBILISTS’ INTERESTS
MEETING AT NEW PLYMOUTH.
THIRD PARTY RISK LIABILITY.
Mr. F. H. Blundell presided over a meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Automobile Association at New Plymouth last' night. Mr. F. Amoore was thanked for his work in connection with the erection of a garage for the association’s car. The Highways Board is to be asked to do whatever possible to improve Earp’s Hill on Egmont Road. The following new members were elected: J. B. Fenwick (Bell Block), J. Goble (Inglewood), Mrs. I. A. Officer (Piakau), E. J. Carr (New Plymouth), D. Jones (Waitara), A. J. Halcombe (Urenui), F. W. Copestake (Fitzroy), G. Pullen (New Plymouth), J. J. Corkill (New Plymouth), G. J. Morrall (New Plymouth), W. Nielson (New Plymouth), A. H. Halcombe (Urenui), J. A. Colnier (Rahotu), R. B. Fussell (Inglewood), W. Hall (Lepperton), F. L. Hartnell (Vogeltowjn), U. Johnson (New Plymouth), W. 'B. Laurence (Uruti), C. A. Grainger (Opunake). Appreciation of the service of the association’s service man, Mr. Judd, was expressed by the Ratapiko Sports Club. Advice was received that the application for an additional motorists’ representative on the Main Highways Board bad been declined. The members of the executive considered every endeavour should be made to secure an extra representative.
The sign in operation in Auckland of blind persons or others suffering from a disability crossing the road with the right hand elevated above their heads is approved as a standard sign by the Motor Union.
The wide scope of the third party risk should be explained to members in the next bulletin, was the contention of Mr. R. Day. Most members, he explained, were ignorant on the point and drivers should be warned not to pick up passengers, because if negligence was proved in the- case of an accident they were liable for damages. In the case of someone else running into the car carrying passengers, the passengers were covered by the third party policy.
