AN OLD OFFENCE PUNISHED
TRANSFER OF A REVOLVER. The transfer of a revolver (nine • years ago without a permit issued by the police was the cause of Norman Harris and Leslie Arthur Chatterton appearing in the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr. R. W. Tate. Harris was charged with procuring a revolver from Chatterton on March 25, 1922, in a manner other than by a permit issued by the police, and With being in possession on May 2, 1922, of a revolver for a longer period than seven days without being the regular owner. On the first charge he was fined 10s. (costs 10s.) and on the second charge he was convicted and discharged. Chatterton, who was charged with delivering to Harris, a person not entitled to possession by virtue of a police permit, a revolver on March 25, 1922, was fined 10s. (costs 10s.). In 1922 Chatterton had registered the revolver and had later sold it to Harris, telling him to go to the police to see that everything was right, said Mr. R. H. Quillfam. He was only 19 at the time, and he was under the impression that his obligations had been discharged. Harris said he had later sold the revolver to a Maori at Hawera, but he did not remember to whom, and the Maori could not be traced.
