TOURIST BOOKING SYSTEM DUTIES AMALGAMATED IN CITIES. FOUR MAIL BOAT AGENTS TO GO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 9. As the result of arrangements between the Railway and Tourists Departments economies arc being effected through the amalgamation of duties at the central booking offices at Auckland and Wellington. Mr. IV. A. Veitch, Minister of Railways, announces that the whole of the. work will be performed by the Tourist Department, which will permit of the work being carried out with one officer in charge at Auckland and Wellington respectively and enable other savings, both in staff and other small economies, to be made.

The Department of Tourist and Health Resorts will also take over the responsibility for and control of tourists and publicity work at present pel - formed by the four mail agents of the Government on the Vancouver and San Francisco mail boats. It is anticipated that the new arrangement will effect a saving of approximately £2OOO per annum and at the same time enable a more efficient service to be given than under the present divided control.
