DECLINE IN BETTING

TOTALISATOR RETURNS. DECREASE OF 19 PER CENT. A decline of slightly over 19 per cent, is shown in the totalisator receipts at racing and trotting meetings in the Auckland Province for the season now drawing to a close. There is a total decrease in the betting to date of £428,917, compared with the lull 1929-30 season, but the Auckland Trotting Club’s winter meeting has yet to bo held, and should reduce this decrease by at least £50,000. ? , The total sum invested to date at meeting throughout the province .is £1,809,420 10s, compared with £2,238,337 10s during tho whole of the 1929-30 season. Racing, as distinct from trotting, was again responsible for by far the greater part of tho season’s betting, totalisator investments in that direction amounting to £1 400 047, of which amount the city clubs’accounted for £950,743. There was a marked decline in betting at racing club meetings, investments at all clubs falling off by just over £337,000, compared with the previous season.
