WAITARA NEWS
INDOOR SPORTS MEETING. On Thursday evening the Waitara Cycle Club will stage something unusual in the shape of an indoor sports meeting, and has styled the rendezvous "The Waitara Stadium,” which is probably the correct term, as raised seats . accommodating 600 persons will encircle the arena. Such champions as the Volzke Bros., Dravitskis, Haupapa and Jones are to give exhibitions of their prowess with saw and axe, whilst as a result of a challenge two Waitara residents will show the audience what they ca n do. Boxing is also to be a feature on the programme; Tommy Donovan will give nn exhibition of sparring with his partners and bouts given by the Waitara fly-weights will keep the public entertained. Other items included on the programme will be cycle racing, haka and poi dances and illusionist items. Martin’s orchestra has been engaged to enliven the proceedings at the stadium and at the dance which will follow the spoils in the Clifton Hall. The remittee is to be commended for arranging such a fine sports evening, which is probably the first of its kind i.i New Zealand.
