CRICKETERS’ HANDICAP NEW ZEALAND DOING WELL SOMERSET’S FAIR SCORE BLUNT TEMPTS BATSMEN (Special to Press Association.) Rec. 5:5 p.m. London, June & The New Zealand cricketers to-day commenced a match against Somerset at Bath. Lowry lost the toss and Somr erset batted on an easy wicket. The weather was fine. The attendance was 4000. The New Zealand team omitted. Merritt, Cromb and Matheson. The two latter are receiving treatment for slight muscle strains. New Zealand were handicapped by the absence of the three leading bowlers, but Lowry handled the attack with excellent judgment, and. Somerset were dismissed for 244. A bright partnership between Lee and Ingle added 87 for the third wicket. Ingle played particularly attractive cricket. The remaining batsmen offered little opposition. The New Zealand-Cambridge match ended in a draw. New Zealand declared shortly after lunch for 226 and Cambridge at the drawing of stumps had made 200 for five wickets. , New Zealand’s declaration was delayed to allow Dempster to reach his fourth century of the tour. He batted very soundly for three hours and was always master of the bowling. He hit ten fours A no-ball when he was one short of his century struck his wicket.
