Mr. T. P. Hughson lias been ic-elected chairman of the Opunake Harbour Board.

Sir Thomas Wilford, New Zealand, and Sir Granville Ryrie, Australia, have been elected to the Council of the Empire Forestry Association.

Lieutenant D. R. L. Stevenson, M. 8., late of the Otago University Medical Company, is now attached to the Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment, . announces the latest issue of the Gazette.

His appointment as Officer Comipanding the Central Military Command and his temporary rank of Brigadier are relinquished by Colonel J. H. Whyte, D. 5.0., D.C.M., as from December 22, 1930, states the latest issue of the Gazette.

Mr. Arthur Hirst (formerly of New Plymouth and recently a visitor to New Zealand on a professional tour had .the unusual experience, says the London correspondent of the Christclii.rch Picss, of delivering a pianoforte-lecture in the Swedish tongue on “Valuations, in Music” before Swedish residents in London. They were rather surprised that an English-speaking man should be so well acquainted with their own tongue. Mr. Hirst is a gifted linguist, and he always uses the language of each country when he lectures on the Continent.

Word was received in New Plymouth yesterday of the death in Wellington late on Saturday c ening of Mr. Leslie Dinniss, of New Plymouth. .After leaving. the High School he entered, the office of Messrs Weston and Billing, and passed his legal examinations when he was only 21 years of age. Subsequently he joined the staff of Messrs Weston, Izard, Stephenson and Castle, of Wellington, and was considered one of the most promising young lawyers in the city. His death at the early age of 25 will be generally regretted, and the sympathy of the whole community will be extended to his parents and brothers.
