OPEN COURSING AT OKATO
BLACK JACK TAKES OPEN STAKE. The New Plymouth Coursing Club held ite second week-end . meeting at Mr. P. Putt’s property, Okato, in fine weather. There was an exceptionally large crowd of enthusiasts at the gathering and they were treated to fine runs during the afternoon. The results are:-— OPEN DOGS. First Round. Black Jack 3 beat Paritutu 2. Tiny Lass had a bye owing to two dogs being injured and she ran off with Silver Lass, which gave Tiny Lass a wood run with five turns. ° Final. Black Jack, Mr. J. Shore’s blk.d. (Betty’s Comedy-—Doreen) 3J beat Tiny Lass, Mr. E. Luxton’s br.b. (Sage King —Romney Lass) 2|. Paritutu, which was nominated by Mr. M. Bullot, is a blk.d. by Smuggler from Miss Joyce. PUPPY EVENTS. As hares were so plentiful a number of dogs were coupled with puppies for educational purposes. Black Jet beat Silver Lass. ’ Black Jack beat Silver Lass. On single “slips,” the following dogs were worked: Paritutu, Black Jet, Silver Lass and Tiny Lass. These font dogs coursed 13 hares. The sporting dog was provided by Mr. B. McGrath. The coursing in the mornino- was on the west side of Messrs. Putt’s "and H. Shaw’s properties, five hares being put up without a run being secured. In the afternoon the east side of Mr. Putt’s farm and Mr. R. Schootrr’s property were worked. The officials were Messrs. A. Haskell (judge), J. Crowe (slipper), S. Crowe, R. Lowe (call stewards) and B. Blackball (secretary). Mr. Putt provided the spectators with refreshments. The next meeting will be for the Ngamotu Cup (open and puppy stake) to be held at Mr. Brophy’s property, Warea. The date has not been decided.
