RATAPIKO FARMERS’ UNION

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Ratapiko branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the hall on Tuesday night. Although the weather was stormy there was a large attendance. Among those present being Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Polson. The president,. Mr. M. Nolan, occupied the chair and gave an account of the year’s working. The financial position showed a credit of £3 12s, he said. Three members had joined the branch and two had left the district. All.the executive meetings had been well attended and four remits had been sent to the provincial executive. A lecture was given by Mr. Hill Motion on manimitis. Two cur loads of members attended the Hawera rally. A further effort was being made to have the primers dff the school put on the roll of the dental clinic. A certain amount of dissatisfaction was expressed at the manner in which the Ratapiko children had been neglected last year. Although the entries for the root and ensilage competitions had been slightly less than the previous year more interest was taken in the judging, a large number being present on both days. Mr. J. L. Corlett won the Taranaki championship for chou moellier, and Mr. H. Telfer secured second place in the pit ensilage competition, a very creditable performance on his second attempt at ensilage making. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Corlett for obtaining a donation of manure for the swede and

to Mr. F. A. Reesby and Hodder and T 'lley for donations. Mr. VVillans and Mr. Martin were thanked for the use of theii’ residences for meetings.

Mr. Gannaway proposed a vote of thanks to the president and eulogised the work he had carried out for the branch.

The election of officers resulted. — President, Mr. M. Nolan; vice-president, Mr. Jack Lepper; secretary, Mr. B. Dust; executive, Messrs. M, Kuklinskl, S. Martin, A. Gannaway, W. Willans, R. Telfer, A. Long and G. Simpson; delegate to provincial conference, Mr. W. Willans. An address was given by Mr. Polson. Supper was provided by Mrs. Nolan, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Dust. PERSONAL ITEMS. Miss C. Lepper, who has recently returned from Australia, has been spending a short holiday with Mr. and Airs. Jack Lepper, Mana Road. Airs. Dumbell has been spending the school holidays with Mr. and Airs. W. Willans.

Airs. d. Lee, Wanganui, has been the guest of Air. and Airs. B. Dalton. Airs. O. Wilson and Air. and Airs. O. D. James have returned from a motor tour through the Canterbury district. Aliss Dulcie Hill has been spending the school vacation with her parents at Ratapiko. Air. and Alls. J. L. Corlett and family, who have been touring in the Waikato district, returned-on Thursday. Air. Jack Gannaway, New Plymouth, has been spending a holiday with his relatives, Mr, and Airs. A. Gannaway, Ratapiko. Alas ter Keith Wells has won a silver

cup for catdiing the largest trout-iif' ,;. the boy’s section of the Stratford Acclimatisation Society competition. Mr. Arthur Grigg has been a successful grower of chrysanthemums this j ear and°has secured championships at New Plymouth, Stratford, and Inglewcod flower shows. -
