RUGBY SEASON OPENING
DEWAR SHIELD TEN-A-SIDE. DETAILS OF DRAW ANNOUNCED. The 1931 Rugby season in Taranaki will be officially ushered in next Saturday when the annual ten-a-side competition for the Dewar Shield will be held at New Plymouth. Details of the draw are as follow 7 :— First Round. (2 p.m.) 1. Stratford v. Tukapa, at Pukekura Park. 2. Star v. Inglewood, at Racecourse No. 1, First Rounds (2.20 p.m.) 3. Old Boys v. Athletic, at Pukekura Park. : 4. Okaiawa v. Patea, at Racecourse No. 1. s.. Celtic v. Kaponga, at Racecourse No. 2. 6. Clifton v. Eltham, at Racecourse No. 3. 7. Opunake, a bye. Second Round. 9. Winners 2 v. Winners 1, at Pukekura Park (2.40 p.m.). 8. .Vinners 5 v. Opunake, at Pukekura Park (3 p.m.). 10. Winners 4 v. Winners 6, at Racecourse No. 1 43 p.m.). 11. Winners 3, a bye. Semi-finals. 12. Winners 9 v. Winners 11, at Pukekura Park (3.20 p.m.). 13. Winners 8 v. Winners 10, at Pukekura Park (3.40 p.m.). * Final. 14. Winners 12 v. Winner 13, at Pukekura Park (4.10 p.m.). The officials will be: Judicial committee, Messrs. J. McLeod, W. H. Moyes and K. Jury; stewards at Pukekura Park, Messrs. A. J. Papps, R. O’Dowda, H. J. Paterson, F. Ferry and R. Doile; stewards at racecourse, Messrs. C. Mullaney, G. Bertrand, R. Howell and C. Smart. Rules. 1. No player allowed to play for more than one team. 2. Time limit: Each game to be played in two spells of ten minutes. 3. In event of draw toss for ends and play two further spells of five minutes or until the first score is made, or in the event of a further draw, to play two three minute spells or first score. 4. Final games to be played in two spells of ten minutes. 5. If draw, toss for ends and play, spells of five minutes or until score is made. 7. All teams to be ready to take the field at time fixed on programme. 8. The union reserves the right to alter the draw, referees or any part of the programme.
