COUNTERFEITING OF NOTES
OVER 8o SO FAR RECOVERED. ANOTHER MAN BEFORE COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Over 80 counterfeit Bank of New South Wales £1 notes have . at i handed in at the detective office to date, and it is believed many are still i- private hands. Harry Torpy, aged 46, described as a native of New South Wales and a showman by occupation, who was arrested yesterday, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. Torpy was charged with uttering a forged note on April 24. “This man was associated with one of the other men already in custody and he had been identified as having passed a note,” said Detective-Ser-geant Kelly; who obtained u remand. Bail was refused.
