As the St. Mary’s committee had decided not to hold a show that year, the Fitzroy committee after consulting them had felt that it. would be unfortunate if a show had not been'held in New Plymouth, said Mr. Dingle. The Fitzroy committee was much indebted to those who had helped with the show, particularly Mr. Loftus Rea and Mrs. Richards, the judges, and the untiring secretary, Miss Taylor. In view of the fact that the committee had decided only a fortnight ago to hold the show, a very good result had been achieved. Flowers -were loved all the world over, said Mrs. Burgess in opening the show. Abroad she had seen many beautiful Howers, but for flowers and surroundings she liked England best. The ; Riviera was a place of dazzling colours. lln Sicily the hills were c'overed with flowers, the Chinese and Japanese were fond of flowers and visitors to Honolulu were given garlands of them. Flowers had always been a part of her life and she thanked the committee for the • opportunity of opening the show. The proceeds of the show are to be given to the. Knox Ladies’ Guild.
