WOMEN’S DIVISION NOTES.

ACTIVITIES OF THE BRANCHES. The Oakura branch of the Women’s Division held its annual meeting on April 22, when Mrs. 0. J. Harris (president) presided over a fair attendance. The president gave a summary of the year’s activities, which included a social and dance in June to assist the branch fund, a dance organised by Mesdames Thomas and Wilkins and held at the residence of Mrs. Thomas, and a dance held in the hall bn April 15, the two latter to raise money for a donation to the community chest. It was agreed to send £5 and to make further efforts to contribute to this fund, on which there are many extra calls at present.. During the year, monthly meetings were held in the homes of Mrs. P. Knight (Tataraimaka), Mrs. Mahon, Mrs. Cochran, Mrs. Eric Penwarden, Mrs. Harris and Mrs. N. K. Morris. Mrs. W. E. Carter, president of the South Taranaki branch, Hawera, addressed the members when they met with Mrs. Knight as hostess, and Mrs. Eric Penwarden arranged a musical afternoon, on which occasion Mrs. Mahon, late secretary of the branch, was presented with a gift on leaving the district. Mrs. J. Marsh very kindly lent her delightful rooms for an afternoon gift party, which was tendered to a victim of the Napier earthquake, a sister of one of the Oakura residents. A donation of £1 had been forwarded to the Red Cross Society by the secretary on behalf of the branch, and a donation towards the Taranaki delegate’s expenses at the Dunedin executive meeting was also sent. A good parcel of books had been •got together and is to be dispatched to the book club office. Four new members had been added to the branch, and it was hoped several more would join in the near future. The next meeting will take the form of a social- afternoon. The office-bearers for the coming year are: President, Mrs. C. J. Harris; vicepresidents, Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Morris; secretary, Miss Haskell. At Waikaia during the recent school jubilee a booth was run by the Women’s Division to raise funds, and gave a satisfatcory financial return. Mrs. McPherson (Riversdale) attended one meeting at Waikaia and gave an address on the aims and objects of the Girl Guide movement. It was decided that a branch of the Girl Guides be formed, and to-day a patrol, with a membership of 20, is in existence.

The annual meeting of the Tirau branch, presided over by Mrs. Kuhtz, was held this month with a good attendance. Mrs. McLaren reported that funds in hand towards the rest room totalled £154. A sum of £3 was forwarded to the community chest. Mrs. Morris was elected president and Mrs. Bishop secretary. The Uruti branch has elected the following officers: President, Airs.. Butt; vice-presidents, Mesdames Musker and Alpe; secretary, Miss J. Musker; treasurer, Airs. Lawrence; advisory members, Mesdames Butt and Musker. The branch has sent £2 10s to the community chest. The report presented at the annual meeting of the Mauriceville-Ihurana branch showed a successful year, both socially and financially. Airs. E. Dagg was elected president, with Airs. Freeman and Aliss G. Heckler as vice-presi-dents. Aliss Brunton was re-elected secretary and treasurer. At Kaukapakapa, Airs. Alerton has been re-elected president, and Airs. V. R. Osbaldiston is acting secretary. The enforced resignation of Airs. Scurrah through ill-health is deeply regretted. Prospects for the new year of increased membership are most encouraging, especially to those w'ho have so loyally supported their branches.
