IS MR. LANG IN DANGER?
DISCONTENT IN THE PARTY
FACTION AWAITING A LEAD
CLAIM BY COMMONWEALTH
NO SIGN FROM THE STATE
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, April 27. “Mr. Lang's leadership of the State Labour Party was never in such danger from a serious challenge as at present,” says the Telegraph. “The discontented faction within the Parliamentary caucus is only awaiting a lead to come into the open with a definite attempt to depose tlie leader. “The trouble, which was brought to a head by the closing of the savings banks, has been kept out of sight only by the fact that no meeting of the caucus has been held since theii, despite a strong agitation for such a meeting among the rank and file of the party. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Lang, Friday’s caucus lapsed for want of a quorum.” To-day is the last but one for the filing of an appearance by the New South Wales State Government in answer to the claim by the Federal Government for £557,519 .paid as overseas interest on the State’s account. The defendant has made no sign that counsel has been briefed and the Government has made no official statement of its intentions.
