TOURNAMENT AT DUNEDIN.

Dunedin, April 6.
The athletic championship in the interuniversity tournament commenced this morning. A strong south westerly wind was blowing and the tracks after recent rain were dead. In the long jump Barker did 21ft. 4Ani. and three times cleared over 22 feet in no jumps, . . , E. Lovelock, the Otago provincial champion, ran a well judged race to win the mile championship and F. S. Ramson, the ex-New Zealand hurdles champion, won the shot put in which the standard was poor.
Results: — 220 yards championship. —First heat: H. C. Garlick (Auckland) 1, J. B. Stephenson (Victoria) 2, K. G. Manchester (Canterbury) 3. Time, 24sec. Second heat: J. N. Goodson (Victoria) 1, J. In shooting for tho Haslam Shield the matches were fired on the home ranges, Victoria College winning two matches, Auckland one and Otago one. Victoria College" won the Haslam Shield ana scored three points for the tournament shield, Otago and Auckland each The highest score for New Zealand was registered by P. H. Meakin (Victoria) 129. The Tournament' Shield points now are: Otago H, Victoria 4, Auckland 3J. At basketball Auckland beat Wellington 34 —24 and Otago beat Canterbury 15—7.
