MANAIA HIBERNIAN SPORTS.
The best runners and cyclists of Taranaki will compete at the Manaia Hibernian sports on Saturday, and excellent sport will be afforded, spectators. The track, which is one of the best in the province, is in splendid condition for fast finishes, and competitors will find it much to their liking. The Manaia wheel race of two miles is the big cycle event, carrying the Holmes Cup, while the Hibernian handicap of 120 yards will be the star sprint running event. A 10-guinea cup goes to the winner. There will be a number of youths’ events, schoolboys’ races, field and novelty events, and a programme of Highland, dancing. All these events are post entry, and a big field of competitors is expected.
The first event commences at 12.30, and luncheon and refreshments will be obtainable. The Manaia Band will play a programme.
