RETURN TENNIS MATCH.

PUNGAREHU 14, WAREA 10.

On Saturday the keenly anticipated return tennis match between Pungarehu ataiH Warea eventuated, and by defeatiiu Warea by 14 sets to 10 Pungarehu won the rubber. The day was an ideal oik. for tennis, and some keenly contested games resulted. Afternoon tea was supplied by the Warea ladies and was much appreciated by all. At the conclusion of . the contest, Mr. H, Wells, on be.ut-.f of the Warea team, thanked the visitors and called for three cheers, which were heartily given. Mr. R. B. Fleming re? plied on behalf of Pungarehu and thanked the Warea club for the excellent tournament arranged and the ladies for their dainty afternoon tea. Warea was lustily cheered b ythe conquerors. During the season the Pungarehu club has greatly increased its membership and the players are very keen. After their defeat of Okato on Thursday they are anxious, to meet that team again before the weather becomes too unsettled. On Saturday eve .ing a very enjoyable euchre party was held for the Pungarehu hall funds. Judging by the large crowd present these functions are going to be quite as popular as those of last year. Miss B. Newport and Miss Stannish tied for the ladies’ prize and in the play-off Miss B. Newport emerged the winner. The men’s prize was annexed by Mr. N. Heisenbuthel. After euchre had finished, a dainty supper was served by the ladies, and this was followed by a very enjoyable dance, the music for which was supplied by Miss L. Gilhooley. Mr. R. B. Fleming carried out the duties of M.C. in his usual capable style., The roll of the local school has i eatly increased and there are now 110 children in attendance. An extra room has been provided and three permanent teachers are on the staff. The school grounds have been greatly improved and the gardens are admired by all. The tenuis court is gregtly appreciated by the pupils, and some of them are showing signs of becoming really good players. This school won the cup for the Egmont county sports last year and the children are preparing to defend it at Opunake on March 25.
