FREEZING WORKS PICNIC
WAITARA VISITS STRATFORD.
SUCCESS OF INITIAL EFFORT. ' The first annual picnic of the Waitara Freezing Works employees took place on Saturday, when 500 people went to Victoria Park, Stratford, by train, while many travelled by road. On arrival the committee was welcomed by the Mayor (Mr. P. Thomson). Mr. T. B. Ewens, replying on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Mayor and the town clerk (Mr. P. Skoglund) for the generosity that had been extended to make the picnic enjoyable. Races and games throughout the day entertained everyone and the scrambles for the children were appreciated to the full. The committee by working hard had collected valuable prizes for the adults and the children’s prizes were numerous. The picnickers arrived at Waitara at 6.50 p.m. The prize-winners were:— Children’s Events. —Tiny tots* race, under school age: Boys, Watty 1, McNeill 2; girls, O. Andrews 1, Lethbridge 2.
