Owners and trainers should need nfr reminder that nominations for all events in connection with the Opunake Racing Club’s annual meeting to be held on St, Patrick’s Day close at 5 o’clock this evening. Ever since its inception the Opunake meeting has been a popular one among race followers as it still retains the picnic aspect, and there is every indication that it will be as successful this year. The Opunake meeting is the only Taranaki meeting held away from the main line, and with its course at Pihama , situated in the centre of a. . rich dairying district it caters for a large population, many of whom make it the holiday outing of the year. Recognising this the club has again framed »' very attractive programme .of eight races. ” The stakes ■_ have suffered only a modest reduction, The Cup (open)! of one mile and a quarter carries 274 sovs, and the open sprint, the St, Patrick’s Handicap,. carries 175 sbvs.' The Hack Hurdles are worth 125 sovs, and in the> hack races no ; stake is lower • than 100 sovs. With the railway now . within reach of the course transport difficulties have been overcome, particularly as Mr. P. S. Riley, the club’s courteous secretary, and his progressive committee, have aga.in made complete arrangements to relieve trainers of all worry in this direction. Mr. H.
