LEAGUE CYCLE CLUB
NEW PLYMOUTH HOAD RACES. ‘ The cycle road races were held last night by the • New ’ Plymouth League Cycle Club. The fields were on the small side owing to the weather, 13 riders turning out. Results were:— A grade race to .-erodrome and back to Waiwakaiho, 81 miles: Aroa (virtual' scr., lOsec.), 21min. 7 4-ssec./1; R.‘ Yardley (virtual scratch, lOsec.), 21min. Ssec., 2; G. Sole (45sec.), 21min. 53see.,‘ 3. Seven started. J. Wigg, alone, oh 1 j min., made a splendid effort to win from end to end and was only caught threequarters of a mile from the fipish. C. ' ••oa commenced to sprint early and held on to win by a length and a half,; Yardley beating G. Sole by inches. B Grade race to Bell Block factory and back, 6J miles, second of series of. five races: W, Martin (3min.), 19min. 36sec., 1; H. Eva (lasec., virtual scr.), 17min. 21sec., 2; W. Jones (IJmiu.), 18miu. 36 l-ssec., 3; L. Stevens (45see.), 17min. 52sec., 4. Eva gained fastest time. Seven started. Martin led all the way and w n easily. The other placed riders finished in a bunch and Eva led with a good sprint. Points in, the aggregate competition are: Martin 6, Stevens 5, Eva 5, Rodgers 3 and Gilbert 1.
The races next Wednesday will be held on the Recreation Grounds under j auspices of the Progressive Athletic Club.
