METHODISM IN HAWKE’S BAY
APPEAL MADE FOR ASSISTANCE.
CONFERENCE TO RAISE A FUND.

The treasurer of the Home Mission and Church Extension Fund reported to the Methodist Conference to-day that the income for 1930 was .£12,791 18s. 5d., expenditure, plus the 1929 , ba }' ance, £12,934 195., leaving a debit balance of' £142 15s. 7d. In the matter of earthquake relief the following resolutions were carried: That the conference expresses its appreciation of the promptitude and liberality of our churches and people throughout the Dominion in contributing to the general earthquake fund; that to ineet the special needs that have arisen through the disastrous earthquake the conference resolves that there be established a Methodist earthquake relief fund, the object of which, shall be to sustain the work of God in the stricken area; that, an immediate appeal be made to our Methodist people for liberal assistance to our impoverished circuits in their great need; that earthquake relief monies now held by circuits and chairmen be paid, into this fund. The conference further commfenda this appeal to the favourable consideration of trust boards throughout the 1 Dominion. The chairman of the HawkeS BayManawatii district said that the rehabilitation of the earthquake area was a connexions! responsibility, as many Of the members were practically ruined, and the circuit’s resourtes were practically nil. From £lOOO to £l2OO was needed for immediate relief, to say nothing of what would be required later for restoration of properties.
