UNEMPLOYED MAN IMPRISONED.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 25. Stealing several books of art union tickets, after he had been employed to sell them, brought Charles Hamilton Romer to a term of four months’ hard labour at the hands of Mr. E. Page, S.M., this morning. The books were the property of St. Michael’s Church, Christchurch, and the object of the art union was to provide funds for the church choir. Romer was unemployed and was sent to the promoters of the art union by the Labour Department. . . Romer had a long list of convictions and at present is serving a two months term for theft in Nelson. His new sentence will be served at the conclusion of the existing one.
