TARANAKI SWIMMING
WATER POLO REPRESENTATIVES.
CARNIVAL FIXTURES ARRANGED.
Arrangements for the sending of the Taranaki water polo team to the Dominion championships were concluded at a meeting of the Taranaki Swimming Centre last evening. Mr. W. Toomey, a member of the team, was appointed manager, and the sum of £2l was allocated tb cover the expenses of the team during the tour. There were present; Messrs. F. J. Eggleton (chairman), J. A. Shimrain, M. Nelson, A. W. Lawn, W. Toomey, N. Crossman, J. Devine, A. Sims, H. J. Thomas, Misses I. Julian, B. Gayton and M. Barlow. Messrs. W. Toomey and M. D. Clarke were appointed Taranaki delegates to the conference of swimming centres at Wanganui. * The results of the “Learn to Swim” week were reviewed, and satisfaction at the way in which it had been carried out was expressed. A letter from the headmaster of the Waitara school, Mr.' Browning, was read by Mr. Devine. The headmaster stated that he was very pleased with the results of the campaign. At his school 18 girls and 14 boys had been taught to swim., A letter was received from the Taranaki Education Board recording its appreciation of the steps taken by the centre and the teachers in instructing pupils during the past week. The New Plymouth Ladies’ Life-Sav-ing Club was permitted to postpone its carnival from Saturday, February 28, until Tuesday, March 3. The Hawera Club was granted permission to hold a carnival on March 9. The final of the Taranaki half-mile championship was allotted to Hawera.
