“WIZARD” SMITH’S SPEED
CONFIDENCE IN HIS CAR. “WONDERFUL BEACH” FOR TEST. Sydney, February 13. Australia’s speed king, “Wizard” Smith, who will attempt to break the world’s speed record on the Ninety Mile Beach, New Zealand, at the end of April, is not perturbed about the recent run of Captain Malcolm Campbell on ■Daytona Beach (U.S.A.), when a new record of 245 miles an hour was established. “I will do 300 miles an hour,” said Mr. Smith. ‘T have any amount of power, and a wonderful beach, Jour times as long as Daytona, and ten times as wide. It is hard, with no pools of •water. My car is a 1031 model job, and is the best-designed and best-equipped car which will have attempted the record.” ■ . Congratulatory cables were' sent by Mr. Smith to Captain Campbell, who, in reply, w’ished Mr. Smith good luck in his attempt on the record. Preparations are going ahead in the completion of the Fred H. Stewart Special, and Mr. Smith is making his final arrangements for leaving Australia for New Zealand. The machine is practically assembled, and on appearances is totally different to the Anzac, 'he machine in which he unofficially broke the world’s record at ■Ninety Mile Beach last year. (
