IODINE IN SARDINES.
PREVENTION OF- GOITRE.
In the treatment and prevention of, goitre there is np better form of iodine treatment than'that found In a natural organic-bound form’ of foods, such a> is found in King Oscar sardines. Recent independent researches into ■the! iodine content of Norwegian canped sardines disclose -the fact .that, they are extremely rich in. iodine and, if for no other reason, ought to find, a “Kgc consumption in all district®, especially where endemic goitre occurs. To ascertain whether the preparing of the fish for canning meant any loss of iodine worth mentioning, the. fish were examined at several' stages o> preparation, and it was found that ail sample's contained quantities of -iodine of the same proportion, and that Norwegian canned isardines were nth in iodine; - In comparison with ordinary fooq> not of marine origin it was.found that not only are Norwegian fish richer in iodine but their iodine contents are of quite a different magnitude. These appetising little fish should, because pl their undoubted food value as well .as thejr iodine content, find a place on the menu of every home.
