FORESTRY RESEARCH WORK
BIOLOGICAL STATION OPENED SAFEGUARD AGAINST DISEASES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson. Last Night. The Government Biological Research Station in relation to forestry was officially opened at the Cawthron Institute this afternoon by the Hon. H. A. Atmore. Mr. Philip Turner, Director ot Forestry, Mr. Foweraker, chairman of the Biological Research Committee, and Mr. Gribble, secretary of the New Zealand Timber Growers’. Association, were among those present. The Minister and other speakers testified to the importance of the station in preventing the spread of diseases among the New Zealand forests and plantations. So much was now being- spent on afforestation it was essential such work should be y’-operly undertaken. Dr. Miller, chief of the entomological department of the Cawthroii Institute, will be in charge of the entomological work, and Dr. Cunningham in charge of the mycological work at Palmerston North.” The Minister said the work of the Cawthron Institute was valued not only in. Nelson and New Zealand but by scientists in all parts of the world.
