Mrs. Caroline Curtis, wife of the late Mr. Herbert Bloomer Curtis, ex-MayOr Of Inglewood, died at Tauranga on Tuesday. She will be interred at Inglewood.
A resolution of sympathy with the Taranaki Education Board’s architect (Mr. C. H. Moore) in the death of his wife was passed at a meeting of tho board yesterday.
Sergeant-Major Edwin Bczar, Wellington, celebrated his ninety-third birthday to-day. Ho participated in much of the fighting round New Plymouth in •the Maori War.
Sir John Broderick, commercial counsellor at the British Embassy at Washington, has been appointed Envoy-Ex-traordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Havana, states a British Official Wireless message.
A resolution expressing deepest sympathy with the secretary of the Taranaki Education Board (Mr. H. W. Insull) and Mrs. Insull on the untimely death of their daughter in the recent earthquake was passed at a meeting of the board yesterday. Dr. C. E. Maguire, medical superintendent Of the Auckland Hospital for 20 years, has been afflicted by a serious eye trouble, states an Auckland Press Association message. On Tuesday he was granted a year’s leave during which ■he will visit England.
Mr. G. W. Kirk, headmaster at Inglewood, is retiring on superannuation at the end of next month. He will be succeeded by Mr. McKinney, , who has been for several years organising teacher to the board. The position of orgaiiing teacher has been dispensed With by the department, owing to the necessity ■for economising.
