MINOR EVENTS TO-DAY

TARANAKI FORA! SHOULD BE GOOD The minor events at Wanganui today should provide some interesting racing. The fields are not unweildy and form shown on the Taranaki circuit should prove a reliable guide, Westmere Hurdles. Avro heads the dozen in this event with 11.3, but in view of his good form at Awapuni he is fully entitled to the burden. Elicit will probably require a race, but Disrank ran during the holidays and should beat Royal Acre. Wyeford has a chance, but a likely light-weight to surprise may be Moerangi. However, the public will probably decide in favour of AVRO and Disrank. Maiden. The field in the maiden event is the weakest seen for some time. Mislaid, Speardpa, Enter, Double Red, Black Duchess, Takahue and Orby’s Choice have all done a fair amount of racing, but ENTER, who ran a close second to Winacre, and Ibis in good time at Foxton, will probably be better backed than Orby’s Choice and Spearopa. Juvenile Handicap. With the Breeders’ Plate winner entered, the handicapper had no difficulty in finding a mate for Isa on the 9.5 mark, and Afovie Star appeals as the better of the pair. Knollmere has not had a great deal of work since winning at Feilding and does not appeal as well as Teller, °vhdse track efforts have been attracting attention at Awapuni. Of the others, the improving lAIPETUOUS reads easily the best proposition, and Teller and Movie Star may find him difficult to catch. Victory Handicap. Statuary ran a good race on the concluding day of the Egmoilt meeting and duly won at his only start at New Plymouth. He did not have a great deal to spare, but this is a weaker field and the extra weight should not worry him. Joyspear has not been too lucky in his recent starts, but the small field should be in his favour. The others will no L be very seriously considered and it looks as if a short price will have to b© accepted about STATUARY. Petre Handicap. Arisus has been paid up for in the Stewards’ Handicap, but his recent efforts have proved a mile to be too far for him. He has won two open sprints in the past couple of months and 9.5 does not appear to be a prohibitive burden for him here. Tea Queen was easily the best hack sprinter seeii at New Plymouth last week, and a rise of 41b. may not interrupt her winning sequence. Paratoo seems to be an “iffy” sort and Playground and Leisure may be better for a race. Royal. Finance is coming back to form and Hinewai should be the pick of the lightweights. Summed up, • TEA QUEEN, Arisus and Royal Finance make most appeal.
