FACING ECONOMIC. POSITION
PRIME MINISTER’S ATTITUDE. PRAISE AT WHANGAMOMONA. That the Prime Minister was to be commended on the comprehensive manner in which he had placed the 'position before the public was the substance of a remark by Mr. Law at the meeting ot the Whangamomona County Council yesterday. He added that the Prime Minister would earn the approval of every • moderate-minded person in the country if he took steps to have his proposals carried into effect. The country had been somewhat impatient at the delay, but no doubt -there were difficulties they did not understand. Certainly no Government had ever experienced such a trying time and he thought the Prime Minister was facing the position with courage. These remarks were made . during a discussion on circular letters from the Awatere and Westland County Councils urging that in view of the serious economic conditions the Government be requested to effect economies by reducing salaries and reducing expenditure in all directions.
In the face of the Prime Minister’s manifesto which appeared to deal with the matter comprehensively it was considered there would be no advantage in discussing the matter and the letters were formally received.
