MOTOR STRUCK BY TRAIN
PASSENGER SERIOUSLY HURT.
VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE LINE.

Dargaville, February 13. Late yesterday afternoon two Wellington residents, Messrs. W. B. and F. E. Scanlan, who were touring in the north by car, were struck by the engine of a train at a level crossing on the Kirikopuni-Tungowahine' line. The driver of the car evidently was unaware of the approach of the train, and had stopped on the crossing. The ear was struck on the passenger side, and W. B. Scanlan. received, the full force of the collision, resulting in his receiving extensive head and other injuries.
An ambulance and a doctor were rushed out from Dargaville, and the patient was taken to hospital, where he is now' making satisfactory progress. The driver was only ’badly shaken.
