Mrs. L. J, Bull and Mrs. A. E. Stevens, of the Kia Ora Croquet Club,. Were visitors to New Plymouth last week for the Croquet tuhl’iiaineiit. Mrs. Stevens was recalled to Ha werrt early on account 1 of the earthquake. Mrs. Bull reached the semi-final in the championship, but had to forfeit in the final to Mrs. Clarke, having to return home on Tuesday morning. # ft %

The South Taranaki Croquet Association, has decided that no good purpose would be served by the postponement of the annual tournament, as already a very large number 'of entries has, been received, representatives of chibs entering from Wanganui, New Plymouth, Otaki,

Stratford, Manaia, Opunake, Kaponga, Okaklwa and Palea. It was decided to give a donation of part of the proceeds to the fund for earthquake distress. The tournament, which bids fair to equal, if not excel, the past Ones, will commence on Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. # * * • . W. Horner winning. # * # # At the Park Croquet Club the silver buttons for weekly competition were won by Mrs. Hobbs and Mr. Exley last week, and yesterday by Mrs. J. W. J. Tregoweth, of the Hawera Hospital, has returned to her home at paeroa. ATHLETIC CLUB DANCE. Following the electric light sports meeting on Wednesday the committee and members of the Ladies’ Athletic Club tendered a complimentary dance to the visiting American athletes, Messrs. Rothert, Simpson and U. Kiser. There Were about 300 present. The evening was a thorough success, the president (Mrs. T. J. Allen), vice-presidents (Mrs. Meyers and Mrs. W. Winn), Mrs. Higgs (club captain), and Miss Adams (secretary) contributing much towards the success of the function.
