OSTENSIBLY ANTI-SABOTAGE
CORPS OF ARMED FIREMEN

The Soviet is organising special factory police and firemen with rifles ostensibly to protect industrial enterprises agaiiist wreckers and enemies of the five-year- plan, says the Riga correspondent of the Times. The organisation is distinct from the ordinary police and the Red Army and is directly managed by the extreme economic council.
The chief training centre at Leningrad issued its first batch of officers last week. They were specially impressed with the importance of the duty of protecting industry from within. The student military academy has been trebled since last year.
