POSSIBLE WHEAT SHORTAGE.

The chairman of the Federal Farm Board, Mr. Legge, to-day declared that a shortage of. wheat in the States was entirely possible if the drought conttinued. The devastating and. unprecedented. drought of 1930 still persisted -

Reports of the Department of Agriculture . characterised the week ending Wednesday as one 'of the driest and warmest on record this season. The lack of moisture in large areas, especially as relates to subsoil, continues very .acute, especially from the Mississippi "Valley anti eastward over the Ohio and Potomac■ Rivers’ drainage basins. Arkansas reports no rainfall of consequence. Oklahoma, an important wheat State, reports no rain. Tennessee is dry; but Kentucky had light showers. Much of the winter wheat belt is without- a protecting cover of snow as yet. The department said the winter wheat was holding up repiarkably well.
