Among the many nurses and those with nursing experience who motored through to the stricken earthquake area from Hawera this week were Sister B. Young, Sister Kinmop t (a visitor to Hawera), Mrs. E. R. Bavin, Mrs. Wood, Miss Ingles (Red Cross nurse), Matron Hunter, of the Hawera hospital, Sister Smart, Sister Walter, of Craigholm, and many others.

News from Hastings reports that Miss May Southcombe, Hawera, who about a week ago left to spend a holiday with a sister in Hastings, is doing yeoman service in the stricken town. Immediately after the setting-up of a citizens’ committee on Tuesday morning Miss Southcombe’s offered services were accepted.

MiSs Constance Reilly, who had arranged a song and musical recital at the .Grand Theatre in conjunction with Mr. Rex Harrison, Auckland, for Monday, has now intimated that the full proceeds of the recital will be donated to the earthquake relief fund.

Among the many Hawera people who made haste to the Hawke’s Bay district during the week to search for relatives and friends were- Mr. and Mrs. Swinburn, who returned on Thursday, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. J. Harding, who were anxious as to the safety of their daughter, Olga, who has been spending a holiday in Hastings with Mr. and Mrs. Duff and family. They returned on Thursday, bringing their daughter with them.
