' LAST MINUTE TREATMENTS. •Sometimes there seems co much to do that there is little leisure for the various “beauty treatments” usually recommended in preparation for a dance or a party. Yet; you must look your •best even if you have had a tiring day. An effervescing tonic bath is a speedy reviver whan you feel “dope up 1 and almost too tired to dress. Put a few drops Of cochineal into a bathful of warm water, -because a tinted bath feels so much more refreshing. Then, just before you get in, add about two ounces of tartaric acid and the same quantity of carbonate of soda. A few spots of your favourite perfuipe will be a great help, too, fot scented water is always invigorating. After the bath, give the skin a quick rub over with eau de Cologne, and you should feel fit for anything. Tired eyes should be allowed the luxury of flipping about for a few minutes in an egg-cup filled to the brim .with salted milk. A mere pinch of added to the milk will be sufficient. If there are dark line? under the lower eye-lids just .blot them out with a touch of natural coloured grease paint and a dab of powder. It ip better to do this last thing before yeu start out. . Probably your hair is not at its best, and refuses to “go” as you want it? If so, mapsage some cap de Cologne into the roots and shake a little op the haip itself 'before brushing it. But keep ■this reviving secret for special. occasions, because its beautifying action is too pronounced for everyday use. It also too stimulating. DRINKS FOR THE INVALID. HINTS FOR TH® HOME NURS®. The home nurse is often puzzled to know what to give the invalid to drink. Here are tome suggestions and recipes: When pure milk cannot be digested, try whey. It is made by boiling a pint of milk with a teaspoonful or two of lemon juice, straining through niuslin and' expressing all the fluid from the curd. This drink may be made more nutritious by adding the yolk of an egg previously whipped up with hot water. ' ■ Curds apd whey are excellent for sick people, being nutritious and digestible. Into a pint of fresh milk, barely lukewarm, put two teaspoonsful of essence of rennet, and stand in a warm-net hot—-place; in about twenty minutes it will be ready, and may be served with the whey. A cooling laxative drink.—Bring one pint of milk io boiling point, and stir in two tablespoon?ful of tamarinds while it is actually boiling. Cool and strain before serving. Barley water with nitre.—Add a dessertspoonful of sweet spirits of nitre to a pint of hot, sweetened barley water. This is an excellent remedy for a cold, when it is deiirafilb to promote perspiration, but it must be taken just before the patient settles down, for the night. Barley water is nourishing, and a very useful drink in illness. BATH-SALTS MADE AT HOME. To each pound of the best soda crystals allow a quarter of an ounce of essence of lavender or any chosen perfume. ‘Roll the soda to remove lumps, sieve thoroughly to get rid of powder, spread out the crystals on two or three layers of paper, and warm them gently in the oven, turning frequently. When quite warm and dry, turn them into a large dry bowl, pour over them the essence, and mix well, adding, if tfaired, colouring matter to accord with the selected perfume. Turn at once into glass bottles, push in the stoppers, and see that they are perfectly air-tight. Suitable wide-mouthed bottles filled with these home-made bath-salts make excellent and acceptable presents. The powder drhich is sieved from the crystals may be put into the household soda jar, so that nothing is wasted.
