TOUR-OF THE EAST COAST

A PARLIAMENTARY PARTY.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. A party of visiting Parliamentarians left Napier yesterday morning to make a tour of inspection of the GisborneWaikokopu railway, on which work was recently stopped. The party, which .was organised by Mr. K. S. Williams, comprised members of the Reform and Labour Parties, Mr. Williams explaining that no United member was asked as an invitation had been extended by the railway committee to the Minister and he thought it only an act of courtesy not to ask private members of the United Party. The party comprised, the following Reform—Messrs. H. Holland (Christchurch North), J. Linklater, H. S. o. Kyle, MacMillan, H. G. Dickie, A. Harris; Labour —Messrs. E. J. Howard and P. Fraser. The party reached Wairoa at noon and was met by Mr. Williams and Mr. W. D. Lysny and the railway committee from Gisborne and entertained at lunch. The party then left on a visit of inspection Sjlong the whole route of the railway line and arrived in Gisborne in the evening after a most enjoyable day. No opinion was officially expressed on the Government’s action in abandoning the line, but members were much impressed with the work done and with the countryside to be served by the railway. . To-morrow morning the party will leave for the East Coast as the guests of Mr. K. S. Williams, returning to Gisborne on Saturday.
