The apointment of Mr. Henry Turner as Under- Secretary of Defence, was gazetted last night, confirming the appointment made on November 1 by the Minuter of Defence, states a Wellington message. Mr. Turner was formerly assistant to the Public Trustee, whose de-* partment he joined iff 1899. Guests at the Hotel Imperial, New Plymouth, include Messrs. R. Walls (Dunedin), H. M. Boyd, W. R. Smith (Wellington), B, Marsack, R. Stetfart (Palmerston North), W. Galbraith (Woodville), A. Phillips (Auckland) and F. Cooper (Wellington). S’ir Malcolm Haley, Governor of the United Provinces of India, who went to Jhigland from India in October to serve in an advisory capacity at the roundtable conference, has been compelled on medical grounds to postpone his departure for India, states a British official wireless message. He has been under examination at a nursing honie for some days and will undergo an operation.
