MULTIPLEX TELEGRAPHY
SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION. ■ London, Jan. 20. The Stenode Radiostat system of multiplex telegraphy, invented by. Dr. J. Robinson, formerly chief of the Air Force Wireless Research Department, permits 30. to' 40 separate messages to be sent over a single wire. It Was demonstrated to-day between London and Bristol, and back—240 miles.' Communication at 80 words a minute was achieved. Messages which otherwise would be mixed on the line during transmission are separated by-tuning forks, acting as . electric filters. ■ Sir Oliver Lodge is of the opinion that the device will eliminate the overcrowding of cables, landlines and wireless. Lieut-Colbnel Adrian Simpson foresees the day when facsimile business letters will be telegraphically delivered from England to Australia in less than 24 hours. ’ ‘ ' '
