GUY MENZIES GOES NORTH
INTEREST IN MOTORING RECORD.
VISIT TO NINETY MILE BEACH.
By Telegraph.—Press AssociationWhangarei, Last Night. - Considerable public interest was evinced when two aeroplanes, tyhtch left Hamilton- at 2.30 p.m., landings at Kensington Park at 4.4 a pm to-dav within a couple of minutes of each other. The first’ machine was occupied by Mr. Guy Menzies and his nartner, Mr. A. L. James, who has a financial interest in the Southern Cross Junior and also in the car with which Mr. Norman (Wizard) Smith intends attempting to create a new world record i the ninety mile beach. Inc second plane was piloted by Captain Mercer, who has as a companion Mr. Blakiston, Wellington manager of the Atlantic Union Company. _ The Mayor. of Whangarei, Mr. Wille iam Jones, extended a welcome to Mr, Menzies, warmly eulogising his feat in closing the Tasman. An informal dinner was held subsequently, and tonight Mr. Menzies is discoursing on Ins flight at a theatre. He will leave tomorrow morning for an inspection b, the Ninety Mile Beach, then returning to Auckland. Mr. Menzies said he would be leaving New Zealand on February ' 6 by the Maunganui for Sydney, . taking the Southern Cross Junior with him for a thorough overhaul. He hoped to return to return to th® Dominion to witness Norman Smith’s record breaking enterprise.
