SHEARERS BECOME VIOLENT
POLICEMAN’S NOSE BROKEN

Ree. 9.30 p.m. Brisbane, Jan. 28. More violence marked the shearers’ strike to-day when 200 men clashed at a wayside station. The strikers pelted stones at the train on which shearers from Sydney were travelling to Western Queensland. A policeman’s nose was broken and many fights ensued.
The engine was derailed owing to a sleeper being, placed on the line. Other attempts at derailment failed.
A Blackball message states that the town is seething with.excitement Both graziers and shearers have assembled in large numbers. It is understood that all the pickets have been called into town and that important developments are expected. w
