STOWAWAY UNDER ARREST
COMPLAINT OF NEWSPAPER MAN.

Auckland, Jan. 28.
'Arthur John Gumerson, aged 31, an Australian newspaper man, was charged with stowing away on the Rangitane. The police said that he was put off on the Panama Canal, transferred to the Ruapehu and arrested on the vessel’s arrival here to-day. Gumcrton refused to fill in and sign the declaration entitling him to land in New Zealand. In reply to the Magistrate, Mr. Woodward, Gumerson said:: “New Zealand hasn’t ‘been friendly to me. I have spent my money and can’t get work.” He was remanded for a week for reference to the Mqustar,
