EASIER TIME’S CHANCE

WILL MEET GOOD YOUNGSTER THE TAR-ANAKIAN’S FORM IS GOOD. CHIEF JEWEL HAS WON ON COURSE FINE CONTEST WILD BE PROVIDED. Taranaki has . not produced a really good two-year-old for several seasons, but the youngsters seen in public so far seem to be up to fair class. One of the most promising gallopers owned in the province is Mrs. W. D. Graham's Easter Time, and the manner in which he disposed . of the smart three-year-old Tradesman at New Plymouth and Stratford stamped him as a particularly good sort.

To-day he will contest the Calliope Handicap at Takapuna and will meet Chief Jewel (who beat the champion two-year-old. Ammon Ra on this course before the holidays), Persham, Princess Bede and Fedora, who have all shown good form against the best. Through Easter Tinie to-day it will be possible to form a definite opinion of the class of two-year-olds in Taranaki. Easter Time carried. 7.6 when he beat Tradesman (8.11) at New Plymouth, and he repeated the performahce with an extra 51b. at Stratford. In both races fast times were recorded, and the brilliance of Easter Time’s performances is emphasised, by the fact that Tradesman was good enough to. run a close second in the open six at Stratford. Furthermore, Easter Time shows every indication of being improved by his two races during the holidays, and it does not seem likely that the best has yet been seen of him. Chief Jewel came into, prominence at the Takapuna spring meeting by decisively beating the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes winner, Tea Chat, and the second, day he repeated, the good form by beating his stable-mate Ammon Ra, who w&s in receipt of 121 b. Ammon Ra’s. subsequent performances prove th® merit of that win. Chief Jewel raced only once at the Auckland Cup meeting and ran a good third in the Midsummer Handicap, in which he was‘ giving 101 b. and 91b. respectively to Royal Baby and Princess Bede. Princess Bede has done a fair, amount of racing this season and won the Taita Handicap at the Wellington spring meeting, as well as filling a number of minor placings in good company. Fedora improved on a good third at Ellerslie to score very comfortably at Trentham last week and is regarded as a good sort of two-yoar old. Persham won at the Waikato meeting, and ‘others ip the race who are well considered are High Comedy, United and Speedmint. Easter Time’s final gallops at New Plymouth were very impressive, and Taranaki bettors at the meeting will be inclined to regard the likely place -getter* EASTER TIME. j CHIEF JEWEL. FEDORA.
