TAKAPUNA MINOR RACES

BIDDY’S BOY GIVEN GREAT CHANCE A'baker’s dozen have accepted for the Trial Stakes at Takapuna, and the bettors will be hard put to it to select anything outside of Biddy’s Boy on form. Biddy’s Boy ran Cylinder to a neck in the Avondale Guineas, apd though he has disappointed several times since then a repetition of that performance would find him distancing this field. Gay Duke ran a few fair races as a two-year-old a couple of seasons ago, but has not had a race this season. Royal Survey, Praetor and Escalus have been working well at Ellerslie. The Shambles three-year-old Smithfield has run some fair races recently, and. he may offer most opposition, to Biddy’s Boy. Orewa Highyeight.

Luminary won the Orewa Highweight last year and scored again at the spring meeting. He raced well over fences art; Ellerslie and may be a force to be rec-, koned with in spite of his big load. Brampton, won a. double at Thames in similar company and appears to have struck his best form. He has been very disappointing, but may be better than his record suggests. Claremore is a useful performer, • but Glena Bay has had his preparation interrupted and may not be ready to show his best. Stonehenge stays on well and Neil and Bizarro are likely lightweights. However, Brampton and Luminary will be in demand with the majority. Zealandia Handicap.

There is a good field in the Zealandia Handicap, although several. of those engaged are also paid up for in the sprint Paganelli cannot be denied a chance, but the improving Gold Money reads much better. She will run out the distance solidly and is just about back to form. Taneriri has not raced for some time, but he js working well and cannot be overlooked. White Wings must be respected in whatever race she takes on, and she seems to be partial to this course. The “iffy” Ti Tree is nicely placed, and Big Bertha ran four good races in second-class company at the Thames meeting. Volimond Will some supporters and Lienor© must be included as a possibility. Gold Day is considered to be one of the best hacks in the province, and may be a likely lightweight to upset calculations. However, Gold Money, White Wings and li Ti’ee read best. . Ferry Handicap.

Ruling Chief has plenty of pace, but does not stay on particularly well. However, this course should silit him. F<*°t Rule is another recent winner and, like the topweight, a non-stayer. Orapai would need to be only half righu to be very hard to beat, but, though he has quite thrown off his the check in his preparation will not enhance his prospects. However, he should run a good race while his condition lasts. Maun T aena is a fair sort, and Gay Idea won a double in weak company at Kmkawa. Sub-editor has a chance, and so has Ctirrajong. However, it is bard to go past Orapai, Ruling Chief and Gay Idea. Hauraki Handicap.

Brampton appears in the highweignt as well as this race, and possesses, excellent prospect? in either event. Biddy Comet Showed fine form in the spring, winning at Avondale and running . a close second to Chrysology at Ellerslie. She races well, when fresh. Haviland has a ?how, and Spring Abbey showed

excellent form la?t season. GoM has run some fair races, but the ©there below do not appeal to any great tent. If reserved, Brampton should b* favoured, but if the top weight, drops the bettors will go for Biddy CoEiefy Gold Lily and Spring Abbey, Stewards* Handicap.

Paganelli’s Ellerslie form would him a great chance if he were reserw® for this race. He has been, well as regards weight. Eaglet may raqmre. some racing to bring her back, to form, but Leitrim won on this course «t th* spring meeting, and is reported to be. working well. Refresher ran a good see* ond over seven furlongs on the concluding day of the Auckland meeting, and goes well at Takapuna. Kept for ijas race, White Wings would have * big > following. HonitOn should soon be back to winning form and she should beer keeping in mind. Tetrachate waa good in hack company, and Gold Day also has a rough chance, but the bettors will put most faith in Refresher, and Leitrim.
