Lloyd’s annual summary of the mercantile ship-building in 1930 shows that 1084. vessels were launched with a total gross tonnage of 2,889,472, of which 1,478,563 tons were launched in Great Britain and Ireland. The output of these countries represents 51.2 per cent, of the total compared with 54.5 per cent, in 1929.

The United States output was 246,687 tons, Germany 245,557 tons, Holland 153,072 tons, Japan 151,272 tons, Denmark 137,230 tons, Sweden 131,781 tons, France 100,917 tons and Italy 87,709 tons. No figures were available from Russia.

One hundred and nineteen tankers of 890,090 tons were launched, of which 77 were built in Britain and Ireland. Less than a quarter of the world tonnage in 1930 was exclusively dependent on coal.
