POIGNANT BURMA TRAGEDY
STATIONMASTER cut TO PIECES.. • YOUNG WIFE PLEADS IN VAIN. By Telegraph—press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 1.30 a.m. Delhi, Jan. 16. One of the most poignant tragedies ot the Burma rebellion occurred at a wayside station at Zibyugon. A party of 50 at midnight surrounded and entered the quarters of the young Bengali stationmaster Dey. His young Burmese wife begged for her husband’s life on her knees and offered her worldly possessions and jewellery worth 300 rupees. The party took the jewellery, dragged Dey to the platform, raided the safe, Stole 200 rupees, cut the telegraph wires, forced Dey on his knees and hacked him to pieces despite the frantic appeals of his wife in their own language.
